Bicycle Education Program is Up and Running

Over the past year, CCBA and the Capitol Region Council of Governments have been working to set up a bicycle education program.  Through 2 generous grants from REI we have established a cadre of League of American Bicyclists' certified instructors (LCIs) and purchased a fleet of 20 bicycles to use for bike classes with City youth.  The week of July 13th, LCIs Jim Arnold and Mary Ellen Thibodeau taught our pilot kids class at the Asylum Hill Boys and Girls Club.  Brenda Watson of CRCOG was their able assistant.  The kids were thrilled to be the first users of the new bicycle fleet and they all improved their bicycle handling skills and safety skills.  We have piloted our bike commute class and plan to pilot our Road 1 class next month.  CCBA plans to offer classes for all ages and skill levels through this program.  Let us know how you would like to get involved - do you know a group that would like to take a bike safety class?  Would you like to become a certified instructor?  Would you like to take a class?  Contact Sandy Fry for more information sfry@crcog.org
